Multi Modality

Students will be able to purposefully integrate multimodality, multiple languages, and/or multiliteracies into writing products to support their goals

This outcome is made in order to demonstrate my ability to use different forms of communication to convey my message. There are a few ways that this can be used: pictures, videos, or even just different ways of writing. This can be seen most prominently in my use of pictures in my research paper, as well as differences in my "formal" writing versus more "informal" writing.

Research Paper:
Figure 1

This is an image seen in my final research paper. When collecting my research, I had to analysize a powerpoint, trying to find some of the pictures and odd pieces that go into creating a fun and interesting presentation. In doing so I was able to apply some of the learning we have been doing in class in a way that’s not necessarily conventional. I decided to add a picture of one of the slides seen in the powerpoint to my research paper, as it adds a visual representation to what I am discussing, and is impossible to properly describe what exactly the visual provides without seeing it.

This was the first of many "muddiest point" assignments I did over the semester. They were very informal, consisting of reading over a required text, taking notes on things that make sense, a question I had, as well as something that I didn't know- a muddiest point in the reading. For this one, we read a section from Writing about Writing, discussing joining an existing conversation, and some tips and tricks about doing so. As seen the highlighted section, my notes were taken in a bullet point fashion, with little context given and they aren't really even full sentences.

Class Writings

In contrast to the Muddiest Point, we also did a quick write the same week. A quick write can also be an informal assignment depending on how someone wishes to answer the provided prompts. However, I chose to write it in a more formal manner, using a paragraph format. I answer the prompts in complete sentences and provide more context to my answers, much different from what is seen in my muddiest point.

Library Practice

In this assignment, we were tasked with exploring the vast databases that exist under the UCF domain, and find some websites that might pertain to our research, as well as complete a short quiz on how to find credible sources. It was one of the first steps I took to find a conversation to join and opened my eyes as to what already exists. By looking more into what has already been researched, my own question that I wanted to research shifted. Originally, I wanted to simply look into what made a good storyteller, but after looking at the databases, I found a niche of storytelling that exists in academics, and struggled to find much on my original question. With this said, I had to shift my question so I could join these existing papers in conversation.
