Generating Inquiry

Students will be able to generate and explore genuine lines of inquiry related to writing, language, literacy, and/or rhetoric

For this outcome, I demonstrate the start to my journey in the field of research. There were many options that are presented in such an open-ended project that we undertook for the semester long project in order to find a question that I might be able to answer. In order to accurately display my ability in this aspect, I have included many of the early works that were in an effort to help make this question selection easier. Some of these works include my very first proposal for a question, two different free writes activities, and an assignment done in an effort to familiarize myself with the library database

Invention List

For this assignment, I had to simply create a list of activities, or really anything, that I enjoy. This activity was meant to show that the research we will be doing could be about just anything, so pick something that I like, to make it more enjoyable. From this list, I was able to pick out two different things that I both liked, and thought would be interesting to explore further: Storytelling and Climate Change. After identifying these two, I was able to complete the second part of the assignment. For the second part of the assignment, I had to find another paper that might connect to my interests in some way. By doing so, I could see how my interests might connect to others as well as see how how my paper should end up like.

Initial Proposal

This is my initial proposal at the beginning of the year. For this assignment, we were asked to introduce our research question, as well as contextualize it with another source that we read in class. The purpose of this assignment was to start the process of the creating our research question. In the picture below, my initial question is prominently seen in the highlighted sentence. At that point in time, I was not quite sure of what I wanted to center my research on, and therefor my question is broad, and does not pertain to rhetoric directly. With these factors in mind, my question was not good, but allowed a spring board to expand on and eventually reach a more complete research question.

Quick Write
Week #1

For this activity, I was tasked with simply writing down some of my thoughts about research without any knowledge of what we would be learning in class in the coming weeks, as well as some goals I have for the semester. I think this piece shows how my thoughts on research has changed over the semester. On that first week, I was still under the impression that research for an English class was just looking online for different sources about some well established topic. Now, with a little experience under my belt, I can see how this research can be much more than that, where I can share my own voice and my own thoughts on a topic.
